Drilling into some surfaces can be unwise to say the least particularly tiled surfaces such as bathrooms and kitchens. The German Ernst-Georg Ortwein had been considering this problem for some time and considered that the enormously strong, elastic and non-rotting single-component adhesives employed in the aircraft and automotive industries could be the answer but these had not been used because the hardening, or curing took too long and the adhesive had to stay in contact with the air, making it impossible to achieve a bond through brief application of pressure. This has been overcome by clever use of an adapter to mediate between the adhesive and the object to be attached! The adapter would have to let air through and be very rugged. This had to be universally applicable; it would have to have standard internal threads, screws or bolts and the product was designed. Now the problem was solved and these products are claimed to take a weight of up to 300kg!
