The new Part M of the Building Regulations came into force on the 1st May 2004.

The new standard is not just about disabled access but now covers access for everyone, including wheelchair users, ambulant disabled, people of either sex with babies and small children, people with luggage, people with learning difficulties, visual or hearing impairments, people who lack tactile sensitivity or are likely to scald themselves on hot surfaces.
