You would imagine that a toilet seat is simply, well a toilet seat. Not if you are a member of the Danish design team at the manufacturer and designers Pressalit it is not. In the main the Pressalit toilet seats are manufactured from duroplast which is a composite thermosetting plastic, similar to Formica and Bakelite. It is a resin plastic reinforced with fibres, using either cotton or wool, making it a fibre reinforced plastic similar to glass-reinforced plastic. Although the main production of Pressalit toilet seats is made from this material, Pressalit also offer a range of traditional wooden style of toilet seat.
The story of Pressalit began in 1952 when a cat accidentally turned over a pot of glue sited on a radiator the result being a puddle of glue mixed with sawdust resulting in an idea that was to become Pressalit. From these early beginnings, production on a huge scale now operates supplying these contemporary designs worldwide. The seats are made from the urea granulate, pressed in heated forms under tremendous pressure at high temperature. The pressed objects, seats and covers, are ground and polished, fitted with hinges and buffers and finally packed ready for dispatch around the world.
The range of toilet seats offered by Pressalit offers more than comfortable access to the toilet, it also offers a number of hygienic solutions for cleaning around the toilet seat area, for instance quick release hinges to allow easy removal of the seat and a wide range of aids for those who may be disabled. These include electric wash basin brackets, support arms, shower seats and nursing benches and a wash basin with height adjustment by an electrical motor.
Pressalit also produce a wall mounted folding waste basket that comes in a range of colours to match or contrast the existing bathroom, a toilet roll holder again in a full range of colours and a wall mounted seat which is in soft, round forms, ideal for the shower or as an extra seat elsewhere in the bathroom, again with colour options.
All products irrespective of the material, is developed by the Pressalit own design centre, often in co-operation with external designers and comes with guarantees of 10 years.
